What to pack for liposuction in Korea
Your clinic will provide its own checklist, so please follow it first. The items below are ones that most patients find useful.
- Two post-op compression garments. Wear one while the other is drying. Ask your clinic which style and length you need.
- Loose, front-opening tops. Tops with zippers or buttons are far easier to put on than anything pulled over the head in the first few days.
- Soft pants with an elastic waist, or a long dress. Darker colors are less noticeable over a garment.
- Slip-on shoes. Bending down to tie laces can be uncomfortable after surgery.
- A plug adapter. Korea uses 220V electricity with Type C and Type F sockets.
- Mild detergent for hand-washing. It is also available at convenience stores throughout Seoul.
- Your travel insurance details. Some insurers require you to disclose recent surgery, so please check your policy before you travel.

Frequently asked questions
How long will I need to wear a compression garment?
Most clinics in Korea recommend about four weeks. International plastic surgery societies generally advise four to six weeks, although the total can range from two weeks to three months, depending on the area treated and the amount of fat removed.
During the first one to two weeks, the garment is usually worn almost all day and removed only for showering. Your surgeon will decide how long you should wear it and when you can stop.
How many garments do I need?
Two. The garment should be washed every day, and wearing one that is still damp can irritate the skin. With two, you can wear one while the other dries.
How long does it take to get one made?
A full-body measurement takes about 30 minutes, not including the consultation. Your garment will be ready 5–8 hours later, so you can receive it the same day.
Can I get it before my surgery, or have it sent to my clinic?
Yes. Visit us before your surgery to be measured, then either receive the garment at our store or let us deliver it to your clinic on the day of your surgery.
Can I fly home wearing it?
Please ask your clinic first, as they will decide when it is safe for you to fly. Some international guidance suggests that short flights may be possible about one week after surgery and long-haul flights after 10–14 days, but this varies considerably.
- Wear your garment during the flight.
- Walk along the aisle every one to two hours, and flex your ankles while seated.
- Drink water regularly, and limit alcohol and caffeine.
- Pack a spare garment in your carry-on bag.
How do I wash it?
Hand-washing is the safest method. Use lukewarm water and a mild detergent, press out the excess water with a towel rather than wringing it, and dry the garment flat in the shade.
If you use a washing machine, turn the garment inside out, place it in a laundry bag and select a delicate cycle. Do not use a dryer, bleach, fabric softener or an iron. Hotel laundry services often use hot water and dryers, so we recommend washing it yourself.
What if it feels too tight, and when should I contact my clinic?
The garment may be too tight if your skin turns pale, you feel numbness or tingling, you find it hard to breathe, or the marks remain 30 minutes after you remove it. Loosen it by one row of hooks or take it off briefly. If normal color or sensation does not return, contact your clinic.
Contact your clinic immediately if one side suddenly becomes much more swollen or painful, if you notice redness, warmth or discharge, if blisters appear, or if your pain is not controlled by medication. If you are short of breath, have chest pain, or one leg is swollen and painful, seek help at once. Call 119, Korea's emergency number, if you cannot reach your clinic.
